Training in the use of rail-mounted cranes

rail crane in operation

We are the ERGON Personnel Improvement Centre, which provides courses for operators and maintainers. During our course you will learn the things that an operator and also a maintainer of rail cranes must do. We will also teach you how to work correctly and safely in these positions.

Cranes are subject to technical supervision, which means that you need to be authorised to work with them. In order to obtain this, it is necessary to pass a state exam, which is essential if you want to start working with a rail-mounted crane. Before taking the exam, a course must be taken, and during this course the student will learn how to work with this equipment and how to behave when doing so.

What exactly will we teach you?

We focus on professionalism, so our training courses are held in such a way that each trainee learns theory and practice. On our course you will learn about, among other things:

  • information on technical supervision,
  • operating the appliance properly,
  • the design of the crane, i.e. its construction and the functions it has,
  • health and safety regulations,
  • repair work,
  • maintenance in accordance with UDT requirements,
  • assessment of the technical condition of the equipment,
  • the rights and duties you need to know and perform as an operator or maintainer,
  • the principles of correct crane operation.

The training programme will be split for operators and maintainers so that trainees are knowledgeable about their chosen position.

Lectures on the machine

UDT exam

After the training course, the trainee will take a state exam, which must be passed in order to be qualified to work with this machine. The exam is divided into 2 stages, the first is to take a written test, this consists of testing the theoretical knowledge of rail cranes. The second stage consists of demonstrating your skills on the manoeuvring area, we have to perform tasks on the crane under the supervision of the examiner. If you pass the exam, you will be issued with a qualification certificate. It should be remembered that a licence for a rail crane is valid for a period of five years. If you wish to carry out further work with it, it is possible to extend the period of validity. It is possible to extend the period if you have carried out a minimum of 3 years of work with the equipment since receiving your entitlement. An application must be submitted no later than 3 months before the expiry of the document.

Course entry requirements

If you want to start the course, you must meet the requirements, you must:

  • be over 18 years of age,
  • have a medical certificate that there are no contraindications to this type of work,
  • have a minimum of primary education.
Design of the device

If we meet these requirements, we can take a course to become qualified as a rail crane operator and, once qualified, we will be able to start working in this field.

We also provide a range of other training courses for people who want to obtain a document authorising them to work with equipment such as:
