In 2021, a nationwide report entitled 'Occupations Barometer' was carried out to find out the demand for specific occupations. The job of a welder was included in the list of the most in-demand occupations in Poland. It is also worth knowing that there has been a shortage of workers continuously since 2015. 

Industry and the economy are growing rapidly, resulting in a huge demand for workers with specific skills. The work of a welder is appreciated both in Poland and around the world. Problems with hiring new workers are related to the lack of people who can boast of having completed a vocational course and having the required certification. 

Career as a welder 

The welding profession offers many opportunities for advancement. You can start in the profession by becoming an assistant. As we gain experience and improve our skills, our competitiveness on the labour market increases and we can take up a position as an independent professional.  

Work in the workshop

The next career level may be in management positions, e.g. foreman, who directs the work of his subordinates, shift leader, whole department or production. When an employee stands out for his or her particular dedication and continuously improves his or her competence, he or she can become a technical director in the company. Well-educated welders with extensive experience can count on an interesting career path.

To get a job in the profession, it is necessary to obtain the required qualifications, confirmed by certificates depending on the machine used. It is also important to possession of certain characteristics and predispositions. They will make work more efficient and definitely easier. Some of the most important ones include:

  • having a spatial imagination, 
  • ability to work under time pressure, 
  • finding themselves in cooperation with others, 
  • being highly communicative, 
  • proper planning of their work, 
  • being in good physical condition, 
  • having a healthy muscular and skeletal-articular system, 
  • having a healthy respiratory system, 
  • no hearing or visual problems, 
  • correct eye and movement coordination, 
  • no problems with colour discrimination, 
  • having mathematical skills, 
  • a problem-solving attitude, 
  • having analytical skills.

The salary offered in Poland in this profession is considered by many to be attractive. However, economic emigration can also be seen in this case.
