When we encounter scaffolding on our way, we rarely think about its structure or type.

The most popular are the so-called Warsaw scaffolding. Scaffolding of the "Warsaw" type consists of small elements, which makes them possible to use both inside and outside the building. What's more, you don't even need screws to mount them! It is all thanks to the pin joints. Thanks to such solutions, the work of the installer is not only easy, but also allows you to save a lot of time! Scaffolding is also divided into:

  • Tube-coupler scaffolding - the basic structural elements are steel pipes and joints,
  • Frame scaffolding - are made by joining flat frames made of prefabricated elements,
  • Mobile scaffolding - it is a tower scaffolding, additionally equipped with wheels and a platform with a handrail,
  • System scaffolding - this type of scaffolding consists of modules and is used when working with complex installations.

 

Fear of heights and scaffolding

Before explaining the process of assembling scaffolding structures, the question arises: who can become a scaffolder? The good news is that no vocational training in construction is required for this position, but... Well, the most important thing is to have completed a specialised course on scaffolding assembly. Scaffolding is, in simple terms, a structure consisting of vertical and horizontal poles on which platforms are placed. Step 1. Each scaffolding should be inspected by technical supervision - hence it is so important that authorized persons take care of its erection!

Step 2. The scaffolding, and more precisely the purpose for which it was erected, should be recorded in the construction log - this activity is usually performed by the site manager.

Step 3. Before erecting the scaffolding, examine the ground, the so-called load capacity. We avoid erecting scaffolding on boggy and wet ground without prior checking!

Step 4. If the scaffolding is placed next to the sidewalk or road, it should be additionally equipped with a protective canopy, it should additionally have a protective canopy inclined towards the scaffolding - to protect people who will be near the scaffolding. For more protective measures, information plates can also be placed that read: "ATTENTION! SCAFFOLDING DURING ASSEMBLY"Or just"ATTENTION! SCAFFOLDING!".

Scaffolder's workplace

We usually associate scaffolding with construction sites or roadside facades of buildings. However, scaffolding has a much greater use. Generally speaking, this construction allows a person to work where, due to the insight of great heights, he cannot reach by himself. Therefore, the scaffolding will find its application in places such as:

 

  • monuments - for the needs of conservation
  • buildings to be renovated,
  • music stage - during stage assembly or installation.

The profession of scaffolder is certainly not a monotonous job, often involving changing locations and gaining new and interesting experiences. You can certainly call it a development job!

 

Main hazards in the work of a scaffolder

Developing, demanding, but often dangerous work. The fitter who erects the scaffolding outside the building performs his work regardless of the prevailing weather conditions. What's more, it is exposed to many injuries and accidents, such as:

  • injuries caused by hand tools,
  • injuries when lifting or carrying heavy components,
  • injuries due to falls from a height,
  • risk of electric shock - contact with poorly protected cables.
