What is a scissor lift?

Scissor lifts, including basket lifts, are equipment in the field of mobile platforms. They are used for work at heights when lifting: people, building materials or other equipment. They are indispensable in industries such as construction, all types of assembly or warehousing. Thanks to their design, they can lift loads of up to several tonnes. Mobile platforms consist of a lifting system, drive and trolley.

Classification of lifts

Escalators are classified according to their drive, which determines how they are used:

  • Diesel lifts - ideal for outdoor work due to their solid, stable construction. Suitable for all weather and terrain conditions. They run on diesel or petrol.
  • electric lifts - designed for indoor work, as their compact design makes them easy to carry out in hard-to-reach places. Recommended for indoor work as they do not emit harmful exhaust fumes or significant noise.
  • Hybrid lifts - incorporate the best features of their predecessors. They offer good stability in a compact form. They can be powered by electricity or diesel.

Categories of lifts

There are several types of lifts attributed to the specific functions they perform:

  • Scissor lift - typically used at loading bays or as a load-bearing element between floors.
  • Lift loading platform - designed to handle large volumes, used for reloading goods or as a goods ramp.
  • Work platform - is often used to lift people, due to its construction with a platform and railings. It facilitates access to difficult working fields and improves working conditions.
  • pallet jack - a small-scale device designed for palletising and depalletising.
  • Lift table - a good device for lifting long and heavy objects, due to its elongated working platform.
